Travel Junk Journal

I think my head has been buried in the sand the last few years, because I just discovered Junk Journals.
Why didn’t one of you turn me on to these years ago? ;)
I’m up on Shimmerz Paint Blog today featuring some pages of a travel junk journal I made for my niece.
Drop by and see if I can inspire you to create one of your own.
They’re fun to make!

Captured

I found the Pink Challenge at Scrapki-Wyzwaniowo June 2017 Pink Challenge very inspiring this month.
It was just what I needed to get inspired to work with a pretty, girlish color, and of course, use my Shimmerz Paints design team products too.
This photo reminds me of my 20 something year old niece's attitude.
I entitled the art journal entry as, "Captured" because of my nieces insatiable
appetite for knowledge.  The journaling reads:

"Good and interesting conversation are a necessity for me.
I want to feel like you're expanding my mind.
I need my attention CAPTURED."
Open pages of the book:

Wild Caught - designed for Shimmerz Paints

I was attracted to the dark murky dusty colors with subtle hints of cream, and peachy/coral colors illuminated by the light.
Desperately wanting to create with this photo,
I quickly took inventory of my Shimmerz Paints inventory, and “voila.”
I had all the colors I needed to create an art journal entry entitled, “Wild Caught.”

Come on over to Shimmerz Paints Blog here,
and I'll share with you some of the details of my mermaid's swimming hole,
and how to add texture to your shell chipboard pieces.
You better come quick,
because she's such a pretty mermaid
and I may have to set her free.

Little Book of Whispers and Shimmerz Paints

Hello friends,
Today, I'm sharing a project using Shimmerz Paints,
and the results of my student lessons with Laly Mille's,
"The Little Book of Whispers."
The book is primarily composed of neutral materials and art medium,
but where I wanted to add a subtle hint of creamy colors,
I chose Shimmerz Paints.

Follow my Shimmerz Paints Design Team Post here,
and I'll show you what products I used.
And, many more pictures of the various folios
are also found on the blog.

If you're interested in the
Little Book of Whispers
class where Laly teaches
us how to bind folios, signature pages
and other lacy delights,
you can find Laly here.

Thank you for letting me share with you.

Shimmerz Paints Design Team Project

Hello my friend’s, glad you followed my Shimmerz siren call to bring you here  today, because I am going to show you how to add some simple techniques to add interest to your art journal pages.   I look for elements in photo that I can try and artfully replicate like gowns that have patterns in the material, or some architectural element.  In this photo, I found the colors and the lovely lace work in the bodice of the gown creatively inspiring.  The following is how I tried to replicate the texture of the lacy bodice onto my book pages.

Art Journal Background Pages:

·         Apply gesso on both pages randomly, and do not fill in the entire pages with gesso.  Leave some of the book page edges in their natural state.  The page will absorb the Shimmerz Paint differently and the same paint will adopt a different hue and texture. How cool is that?

·         Emboss with a stamp, embossing ink, and white embossing powder randomly around the pages.

·         Lightly spray Vibez Deep Blue Sea around the edges of the book pages and quickly use a dampened sea sponge to absorb excess color and soften the edges.  If you can see the hard spray on the paper, add a spritz of water to soften the color and make the sprayed marks disappear.  Let dry completely.  I prefer to let the paint dry naturally and not try to move the paint around with a heat gun…did I mention I have control issues? LOL.  Plus, leaving the paint to dry naturally adds more depth.

·         Repeat the above application to add more depth of color.

·         If your embossing images become saturate with color, you can use a damp sea sponge to clean it up.

·         Some Paste-eez was used over a stencil randomly over the page leaving an ethereal patterned image.

Chipboard Element:  Chipboard remnants are my newfound interest…they look like puzzle pieces and are easy to tuck into clusters.

·         Apply gesso to the chipboard.

·         Use a very small paint brush and paint near the edge of the chipboard and leave some of the white gesso exposed. Here I used Inklingz Penny 4 Your Thoughts

·         Apply another coat of paint, or a different color randomly on the chipboard making sure you don’t cover the white edged gesso. Here I used Shimmerz Blue Grass

·         Lightly use a very fine black marker and pen around the edges next to the white gesso.

I hope I have inspired you to work in  your art journal this week using some Shimmerz goodness.
